How To Use PetLab Artificial Turf / Outdoor Cleaner

Treat all outdoor surfaces including: artificial turf, concrete, brick, outdoor furniture, kennels, swing sets, fences, walls or any other surface where odours arise due to pets.

Treating Urine Odour on Artificial Turf

When your pet urinates on artificial grass, the urine seeps through the drainage holes in the grass and settles in the crushed rock and sand base below the surface. Once it dries, it crystallises forming uric acid crystals which are the source of the odour.

Humid and hot weather conditions activate the crystals and cause them to release the pungent urine odour. Water, vinegar or baking soda will not break down the non-soluble uric acid crystals, only a bio-enzymatic formula like PetLab outdoor turf cleaner can break down and remove these crystals permanently.

Initial Treatment: PetLab has formulated a first-of-its-kind two step treatment specifically for the initial treatment of heavily soiled urine-affected artificial turf and surrounding outdoor surfaces:

Step 1: Apply the Super Concentrate Enzyme Solution to biologically break down & remove the uric acid crystals and other odour causing matter found in urine, faeces, vomit, slobber or any other excretions.

Applying to portable artificial grass mats:

  1. Remove solid waste and flush out the mat with clean tap water using a watering can, pressure pump spray bottle or hose
  2. Dilute 50ml of the enzyme concentrate to 950ml of water in a 1L spray bottle
  3. Apply liberally to the turf surface
  4. Place in a cool area and allow to air dry
  5. Rinse with water to remove any residue from the biological action

Applying to small areas of artificial turf in apartments or units (Approx. 3sq meters - 12 sq meters):

  1. Remove solid waste and flush out the turf with clean tap water using a watering can, or pressure pump spray bottle or hose
  2. Dilute 100ml of the enzyme concentrate to 1900ml of water in a 2L pressure pump spray bottle
  3. Apply liberally to the turf surface at sunset and allow to dwell until air dry
  4. If in a sunny warm area, place a plastic cover or tarp over the area to slow down the drying time. Enzymes are most active in moist conditions so it’s important to keep the area as moist as possible for as long as possible
  5. Rinse with water to remove any residue from the biological action

Treating larger areas of artificial turf in homes (Approx. 13 sq meters - 40+ sq meters):

  1. Remove solid waste and flush out the turf with clean tap water using a watering can, pressure pump spray bottle or hose
  2. Dilute 100ml of the enzyme concentrate to 1900ml of water in a 2L hose applicator spray bottle (best for larger areas)
  3. Apply liberally to the turf surface at sunset and allow to dwell until air dry
  4. If in a sunny warm area, place a plastic cover or tarp over the area to slow down the drying time. Enzymes are most active in moist conditions so it’s important to keep the area as moist as possible for as long as possible.
  5. Rinse with water to remove any residue from the biological action

Step 2: Apply the Super Concentrate Outdoor/Turf Disinfectant over the same area to eliminate any rogue germs, bacteria or viruses left behind.

  1. Hose down the area first to moisten the turf (moisten DON'T saturate)
  2. Spray PetLab Plus generously so that it penetrates the turf surface and seeps through to the base. (*use what is best suited for the size of the area to be treated)
  3. Allow to air dry

*Application Methods:

  • Small Surface Areas: Watering Can or Pressure Pump Spray Bottle (up to 15 sq meters)
  • Larger Surface Areas: Hose Applicator Bottle (40+ sq meters)

Note: Frequency of maintenance treatments all depends on how many pets use the area as their toilet and also if the area is used as their primary toilet.

In warm/hot seasons - fortnightly maintenance.

In cooler seasons - 4-6 weeks maintenance.

Regular watering down between treatments is recommended.

The initial treatment should always begin with the enzyme + disinfectant pack.

Treating Urine Stains & Odour on Concrete, Brick Paving, and Unsealed surfaces

Note: These surfaces are porous, resulting in urine deposits being absorbed deep into the flooring. Therefore it is crucial to treat urine-affected area/s on these surfaces immediately. If Left untreated for long periods it can result in discolouration and/or burn marks which in most cases are irreversible. Treating with PetLab will however remove lingering odours.

How to apply:

  1. Use a blue UV light in the dark to detect where the urine source is most prominent and treat this area first. If not possible;
  2. Spray the entire surface liberally with PetLab Stain & Odour solution
  3. Cover with a non-porous plastic covering (tarp) for at least two to three hours to slow down the drying time by delaying evaporation and allow the enzyme solution to penetrate the surface.
  4. Blot the floor dry with paper towels or microfibre cloth. For larger outdoor areas, rinse with a garden hose or watering can.
  5. Repeat Steps 2, 3 and 4 as required with two hours between applications until urine odour is removed.
  6. For indoor surfaces, lightly spray the surface with water to remove any residue. Outside areas can be rinsed with water and left to air dry.

Note: We also recommend disinfecting the area after the enzyme treatment. The PetLab Plus Outdoor/Turf concentrate is a natural pet-safe disinfectant that will disinfect the area and also enhance the odour control potency for an even cleaner and odour free result.
